Ōshū Fujiwara
The Ōshū Fujiwara (奥州藤原氏 Ōshū Fujiwara-shi , i.e. “family of Fujiwara of North”) were a powerful family of warriors who directed the North-East of the Japan (provinces of Mutsu and Dewa) to the XI {{E}} and 12th centuries, descendant of Fujiwara No Tsunekiyo (vassal of Abe No Yoritoki and going down from the Hidesato branch of the Fujiwara of Kyōto).
Their capital, Hiraizumi (in current the Prefecture of Iwate), at the beginning a simple fort built by Fujiwara No Kiyohara, first chief of the clan, became at the 12th century a splendid city after they made come from many craftsmen of Kyōto, with which it competed in splendor and sophistication.
They directed a kingdom quasi-independent which drew its richness from the mining of the Or, of the trade of horses and their situation of intermediaries in the trade of imported luxury items of continental Asia and of the states of the natives Emishi and Aïnus.
They were destroyed in 1189 by Minamoto No Yoritomo which showed them to have lodged his/her brother, the outlaw Minamoto No Yoshitsune.
