İskenderun
İskenderun or Alexandrette is a city of the south of the Turkey. It was founded by Alexandre Large the to commemorate the victory with the Bataille of Issos in 333 av. J. - C., Iskandar meaning Alexandre in Persan.
Called Alexandria Minor or Alexandria AD Issum during the Antiquity, it belongs to the time of the Latin States of the East to the principality of Antioche then in XIVe it fall to the hands from the kings de Chypre. In XVIe century the city is taken by the Othoman and is attached to the province of Syria. With the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after 1918, it does not form part of Turkey but is controlled by the French Mandat in Syria. In 1938, the business of the Sandjak d' Alexandrette attaches it to Turkey.
