Český rozhlas

Český rozhlas is the company of public Radiodiffusion Czech. Whereas its national stations decline, its regional antennas are an increasing success.

History

Regular emissions begin the May 18th 1923 in Czech republic. In 1933 the Czech public radio moves in her current buildings, 12 rue Fochová (currently Vinohradská). In 1939 the partition of the country involves division into two of the public radio. In 1941 radio operator Czech is integrated into Rundfung Böhmen und Mähren. In May 1945 Radio - Praha II, future ČRo 1 - Radiožurnál, is launched. It is in 1991 that radio operator Czech changes statute, to become an independent organism. The November 6th 1995 Český rozhlas 6/Radio Svobodná Evropa (Radio operator Free Europe) appears on the waves.

Stations

Český rozhlas control several stations:
  • ČRo 1 - Radiožurnál: Information.
  • ČRo 2 - Praha: family talk and programs.
  • ČRo 3 - Vltava: culture, art and classical music.
  • ČRo 4 - Radio operator Wave: radio for the young people.
  • ČRo 5: 12 regional stations: ČRo Brno, ČRo České Budějovice, ČRo Hradec Králové, ČRo Olomouc, ČRo Ostrava, ČRo Pardubice, ČRo Plzeň, ČRo Area, ČRo Sever, ČRo Vysočina Area.
  • ČRo 6: radio of information.
  • ČRo 7 - Radio operator Prague: External service.

Budget

In 2005 the resources of the Czech public radio rose to 1.634 million Czech crowns (57,19 million Euro or 91,8 million Canadian dollars), for 1.638 spent. The resources come mainly from the royalty, the other means of financing like publicity or sponsoring being marginal.

Goes down for hearing

In 2005 the weekly share of audience of the whole of the Czech public radio amounted to 26,4%. The national radios had an audience of 17%. Most popular was the station of information ČRo 1 - Radiožurnál with 1.262.000 listeners (14,4%), like ČRo 2 - Praha with 503.000 listeners and 5,8% of share of audience. The regional radios (ČRo 5) reached 9,3%, the most listened regional stations being ČRo Brno (297 000 listeners and 3,4% of audience), ČRo České Budějovice (131 000 listeners for an audience of 1,5%) and ČRo Plzeň (102 000 listeners and 1,2% of share of audience).

The share of audience of the public radio decreases since the Années 1990, passing from 30,5% in 1998 with 26,4% in 2005. After a continuous decrease of 1998 with 2002, the share of audience increases in 2003 and 2004, but ends up decreasing in 2005. The national audience of the radios decrease since 1998 (except in 2003), the most spectacular example being that of ČRo 1 - Radiožurnál, which passes from 25% of audience in 1998 to 14,4% in 2005. Contrary, that of the regional stations increases, passing from 5,7% to 9,3%.
