Česká televize ( Czech Television , shortened in ČT ) is the public group of Télévision of the Czech Republic.

History

Czechoslovakian Television ( Československá televize , ČST), created on May 1st, 1953 is the predecessor of the Czech Television which is born on January 1st, 1992 under the terms of the Law on Czech Television. Let us recall here that the Czechoslovakia disappeared only at December 31st, 1992 but that this federal republic was in the process of advanced bipolarisation, each of the two future countries, Slovakia and Tchéquie, obtaining national structures with depend on the federal authorities.

It diffuses in parallel with the ČST until the Divorce of velvet which marks the peaceful separation of the federal authorities and the disappearance of the ČST.

From January 1993 in February 1994, Czech Television operates four national television channels then the frequency of OK3 is allocated with TV Nova, the very new private television channel.

The chain of information uninterrupted ČT24 and sports ČT4 Sport are added to its bouquet the May 2nd, 2005 and February 10th, 2006.

Crisis of Czech Television

The “crisis of Czech Television” takes place of the end of 2000 at the beginning of 2001. One evening of the holidays of Christmas, Jana Bobošíková, figure familiar of the Czech tv news, involves in the tv news with, at its sides, Jiří Hodač, a former journalist of the BBC which has just been appointed managing director of Czech Television in spite of charge partisanes showing it to be too close to ODS of Václav Klaus. The strikers do not ask anything less than the reference of Bobošíková and the resignation of Hodač. This takes place at the beginning of 2001 pennies the pressure of the public opinion which does not weaken and under that of the Sněmovna, the House of Commons which controls the Superior council of audio-visual Czech.

Jana Bobošíková is thereafter engaged like stimulating of the political program of discussion Sedmička on TV Nova.
