×
In Mathematical, the symbol × indicates a multiplication. Certain people prefer the letter X to him which, visually similar, is easier access on a Clavier AZERTY. In Data-processing, one will use the symbol *. The × is also usually simplified by a point. However, in convention anglo-saxone, the point is also used as decimal separator. It is thus of convention, in the works using the point like decimal separator, to use the median Point like signs multiplication, for example:
- not like decimal separator: 5.1·2 = 10.2
- comma like decimal separator: 5,1·2 = 10,2
The symbol of the multiplication is generally omitted in Mathématiques (for example, 3 (4x+1) (5xy-2) Z means 3× (4×x+1) × (5×x×y-2) ×z ). The symbol × is then only employed for the produces units and sometimes for the vector Product.
In language TeX, it is obtained with \ times (for example, ).
In HTML it codes & times; or & #215; .
