Obidos comes from Latin Oppidum who wants to say strengthened city, not far from there exists the Roman ruins of Eburobrittium

Strengthened, very tourist picturesque city .

History

of Roman origin, occupied by the Moors until 1148. Strengthened in 1527, the city occupies the same surface as now i.e. 14.5 ha.
