Învîrtita

Învîrtita (or Învîrtit ) is a traditional Danse Rumanian meaning to turn or whirl.

Description of the dance

It is a category of popular dances widespread in Transylvania and with the Maramureş. They are generally danced in couples freely dispersed on the surface of dance, the partners face and are not held the shoulders (hands on the scapulas) or by the size. The form of the simplest movement is represented by a kind of bilateral swinging alternating with fast rotations of the couple on the spot, in a direction then in the other.

Styles

There exist very complex forms of învîrtita which include/understand many pirouettes (fast tower of the girl on the heels, under the arm of the rider). In same time the boy carries out extremely difficult movements requiring a great virtuosity.

This style of dance either binary (2/4 or 4/4) or irregular, is syncopated or even in certain areas, such as the valley of Agrij, she is played into 10/16.

  • Învirtita batute : she is generally danced by groups of 4 to 6 people and is called Jiana (Jianeasca).
