Évrard of the Bars (or Everard of the Bars, there exist several C-Ws communication) is the main third Templiers and controls the order of March 1149 with 1152. It is already one of the principal dignitaries of the Ordre of the Temple when dies, in January 1147, the main Robert de Craon, since Evrard carries the title of Précepteur of France . Hardly indicated, it must intervene militarily with the head of its templiers to save the King de France Louis VII, engaged in the Second crusade, in the throats of Pisidie.

According to the chronicler Odon de Deuil Evrard of the Bars is a very religious, eminently sizeable and having the values of knight, courageous and energetic man. Its influence on Louis VII seems to have been strong. When the crusade finishes, by a failure in front of Damas, Louis VII returns to France followed by Evrard which lends an important amount of money to the sovereign. It is a precedent which will make school. However the Master on the spot leaves his troops which gain a victory by defending Jerusalem against a raid of Turkish troops (towards 1149/1150).

Evrard of the Bars embraces on its return the monastic life to Clairvaux and abdicates in 1152 in spite of the pressures of the templiers so that it remains at their head. He dies in 1174. It is Bernard de Tramelay which succeeds to him.
