The évêché of Fraud-of-Brittany (traditionally called Breton Bro-Zol in ) is attested like such as of the 6th century. It holds its fortune of the will of kings Nominoé and Solomon, which wanted to ensure the religious autonomy of the Brittany, up to that point attached to the ecclesiastical province of Tours, and support the erection of Fraud in archbishop's palace towards 848. The tradition gives him for founder Saint Samson.

The new ecclesiastical province comprendait old the Diocèse S of Vannes, Quimper, Leon and Alet, as well as the new dioceses of Fraud, Saint-Brieuc and Tréguier.

Long quarrels, where the other Breton dioceses tend in their turn with an independence, see to clash in front of the pope the opposite interests of Henri II Plantagenêt, which wishes the maintenance of a Breton archbishop's palace, and those of Philippe Auguste, which is due to a hierarchical relation placing the évêchés Breton ones under the authority of an archbishop of the capétien field. Papacy generally supports the claims of the seat of Turns, and the business is completed by the removal of the province of Fraud at the end of the 11th century.
