In the Greek Mythology, Érope or Ærope are the girl of Catrée. She passes, according to the authors, for the woman of Atrée or Pléisthénès, and for the mother of Agamemnon and Ménélas.
According to the most spread version, Érope, married to Atrée, is in love with his/her brother-in-law Thyeste. When her husband entrusts the to him Golden Fleece, it gives it in its turn with Thyeste. This one, by trick, leads his/her brother to promise that only the holder of the Golden Fleece will be able from now on to reign on Mycènes. The made oath, Thyeste seizes the throne.
