Érechthée , Érechtée or Érecthée (in Greek old Ἐρεχθεύς / Erekhtheús ) is the sixth legendary king of Athens. It should not be confused with his grandfather, Érichthonios, another Athenian king.

Wire of Pandion and Zeuxippe, it receives with dead from his father the royalty in division, while his/her twin brother Boutès receives the religious capacity. He marries Praxithée and in a:

  • Cécrops;
  • Métion ;
  • Digs;
  • Protogénie ;
  • Pandora;
  • Procris ;
  • Mérope ;
  • Chtonie ;
  • Orithye .

In war against the Éleusiens, its army on the point of ête is demolished when an oracle promises the victory to him if it sacrifices one of his daughters. Érechthée chooses young person, Chtonie, but, without his knowledge, Pandore and Protogénie made wish not survive their sister, and give themselves death. Victorious out of Éleusiens, it kills their chief, Eumolpe of Thrace, wire of Poséidon. The god kills then Érechthée of sound Trident (or, following other traditions, asks Zeus to strike down it).

The character inspired a tragedy with Swinburne, Érechthée (1876).
