Épona

Épona - Gallic epos , “Horse” - was the protective Déesse Gallic horses

Also called “the divine mare”, Épona is represented sat on the back of a horse (standard equestrian), or in a chair between two horses or foalta (standard imperial). She often holds a Patère or a Horn of plenty.

Épona is a important Avatar of Brigantia, the large goddess of the Celtes.

Its worship was transmitted by the auxiliaries Gaulois to the Romains and of the traces of this worship were found with the Lateran in the barracks of the equities singularum , riding barbarians of the imperial guard.

The Palefrenier S set up sanctuaries in the cattle sheds to him. It was the only Gallic goddess to have taken place of worship in Rome.
