Épiez-on-Meuse
Épiez-on-Meuse is a common French, located in the department of the Meuse and the area Lorraine.
Geography
Epiez on Meuse (altitude: 280 meters) is in the canton of Vaucouleurs (8 km) and in the district of Commercy (29 km). The commune is close to Burey Are worth some, Maxey on Vaise, Amanty and of Badonvilliers. It formed part successively of the territory of the leukes (at the time of Jules César) with Tullum (Toul) for capital, of Belgium (one of the four provinces of Gaulle), of Champagne (as from the 10th century) but a portion of its territory was attached to Barrois driving at the 13th century.
History
The village of Epiez goes up at the time Gallo-Roman, as the vestiges of antiquity found on its territory attest it. Its primitive castle, " tour" of Epiez, located at the top of the current cemetery, was inhabited by the rider Perrin d' Epiez then by the family of Jean de Verrières, lord of Epiez until the 15th century, before being destroyed during the Thirty year old war. Another castle was built at the 16th century, destroyed then rebuilt by the family of the Lock before being sold with the revolution. Epiez suffered from many wars: in particular of that which opposed Louis XIII and the duke of Lorraine (1635) and the Thirty year old war.
