Resulting from a modest milieu, Émilien Amaury starts by being dispach rider (“cyclist”). After its military service, it founds the General Advertizing agency (OPG) which manages the advertisements for several titles of the press Christian-Democrat.

Under the occupation, Amaury is seen entrusting by the mode of Pétain the diffusion of its propaganda on the topic of the family. As of 1941, it animates " the group of the street of Lille" , a clandestine group, sheltered in the buildings of the OPG, fighting against propaganda and the occupant. The group puts its printing works at the service of the resistance movements. Thanks to its official position, Amaury profits from material privileges in this period of rationing of paper. He sees himself thus able to flood Papier the clandestine press of the Résistance, all political tendencies confused ( Résistance , Humanity , Courrier of Christian Testimony , etc). Pullings are relatively important, of 30.000 with sometimes 100.000 specimens. The group of the street of Lille also prints the calls of the General de Gaulle, but also of false documents for Resistance (identity papers, pass, ration cards, sheets of demobilization, etc), of the thousands of leaflets and posters.

With the release in August 1944, Émilien Amaury creates the Carrefour weekly magazine. Then it joins the female League of catholic action and founds Marie-France , of which it will take the direction thereafter. It is as at that time as it creates the Trade union of the Parisian weekly press (become then Trade union of the press magazine and opinion), of which it will be re-elected president each year during 33 years.

Between 1975 and 1977, Émilien Amaury carried out battles against the trade union of the CGT book, which had the seizure in printing works. It makes build its own printing works. A crisis is followed from there which paralyzes Parisian the , whose sales fall of half.
