Émétophobie

The émétophobie (of the gr. emein to vomit) is a Phobie related to the morbid dislike of the Vomi. The émétophobes are afraid of all the events which can involve the action to vomit. For example, they avoid transport, the food at the risk (seafood in particular), they are not at ease when a person reads in a car, beside them; they do not feel well when they see somebody vomitting, that it is opposite them or with the Télévision, etc

Moreover, this phobia is accompanied by rites (sentences/prayers/gestures) making it possible to calm the many crises of anguishes. This fear of vomit can involve the anorexia, the subject not wishing so much to vomit that it choose more anything to have to vomit. This evil can be related to a strong traumatism, such as a rape or a former sexual abuse, but an event pain-killer can start the dislike. This phobia touches the men as well as the women, and the psychological distress and the insulation which it creates are often underestimated, since nobody likes " truly vomir". But in the case of the émétophobie, it is not only one question of momentary dislike, but well a true daily obsession. The patients need to be constant and the Psychanalyste perhaps a very good adviser. However, it is possible to live suitably with its phobia by accepting the fact that it will not disappear completely, but sufficiently so that one can live with.

Fear of vomitting in public perhaps regarded as a particular type of social Phobia.
