Élizabeth Ryksa

Élizabeth Ryksa (in Polish Ryksa Elżbieta , in Czech Eliška Alžběta Rejčka , in German Elisabeth Richza ) was born with Poznań on September 1st 1288 and died in Brno the October 19th 1335. It is the only daughter of Przemysl II of Poland and his second wife Ryksa, the girl of Valdemar I {{er}} of Sweden.

It was queen of Bohemia and Poland.

After the assassination of Przemysl II in 1296, it becomes protected from Marguerite of the Brandebourg, the widow and third wife of her father. She is educated at the court of Albert III of Brandebourg and she is intended to become the woman of her son Othon V of Brandebourg. The unexpected death of this one in 1298 reduces this project to nothing.

Being the last representing of the Piasts of Large-Poland, it is a party interesting for any applicant with the Polish crown. The powerful ones of Large Poland accept that Venceslas II becomes king de Pologne, in the condition which he marries Élizabeth Ryksa as soon as it reaches the fifteen years age. It becomes engaged to Élizabeth Ryksa which settles with Prague. Venceslas II is crowned king de Pologne with Gniezno the July 25th 1300. The May 26th 1303, with the cathedral of Prague, Élizabeth Ryksa marries Venceslas II and it is crowned queen of Bohemia and Poland by Henri de Wierzbno. A fore-mentioned little girl Agnès is born from this union, a few days before the death of Venceslas the June 21st 1305. The Dynastie of the Premyslides dies out the August 4th 1306, with the death of Venceslas III, the son of Venceslas II.

Élizabeth Ryksa again becomes a party interesting for which wants to go up on the throne of Bohemia and Poland. It is the son of the King of the Romans Albert I {{er}} of Habsbourg, Rodolphe de Habsbourg, which marries Élizabeth Ryksa the October 16th 1306, and which becomes king de Bohême. Rodolphe dies a few months after its marriage, the July 3rd 1307. Whereas it is not yet twenty years old, Élizabeth Ryksa becomes widowed for the second time. It buys the area of Hradec Kralove.

A Civil war bursts in Bohemia, putting at the catches two applicants at the throne, Henri de Carinthie and Frederic de Habsbourg, the brother of Rodolphe. His/her brother-in-law loses the war and Élizabeth Ryksa must flee. In August 1308, it will be authorized to return in Hradec Kralove where it will encourage the development of art and the culture.

In 1310, Jean of Luxembourg wife Elisabeth, a girl of the first marriage of Venceslas II, and becomes king de Bohême. Élizabeth Ryksa joined the camp of the opponents to the new king. Two reasons explain this choice. First of all, it is wounded in its pride because Jean of Luxembourg preferred his daughter-in-law to him. Then, she saw a history of love with Henri de Lipa, the leader of the opposition. In 1315, Henri is arrested and imprisoned. The power of Élizabeth Ryksa is such as the king of Bohemia is obliged to slacken its prisoner in April 1316.

In 1317, Henri I {{er}} of Jawor wife Agnes, the girl of Élizabeth Ryksa. In 1321, Élizabeth Ryksa sells the area of Hradec Kralove and settles with Henri with Brno. The relations with Jean of Luxembourg are heated.

Henri dies the August 26th 1329. Élizabeth Ryksa is withdrawn in a Couvent. Four years later, in company of her daughter, it makes a Pèlerinage several months in the sanctuaries of the Rhineland.

Élizabeth Ryksa dies out the October 19th 1335 with Brno. It is buried beside Henri de Lipa. It left all its fortune to religious institutions of Bohemia and Poland.
