According to Canrobert, it misses tact, has the coarse verb and polarizes on him the dissatisfaction with the army, tested by the length of the Siège of Sébastopol. Already at the time of the arrival of the troops in the Crimea, the shortly after the Bataille of Inkerman, one showed the Forey general to have missed the occasion to take the southern part of the town of Sébastopol, that the Russians had dismantled to attack the English., and to have caused the death of the general Lourmel and the loss of much of men, while refusing to support a spontaneous attack of this general on the bastion of forty. Moreover, the officers under the orders of Forey reproach him for being too severe. As, when the army learns as it is raised of its command, the rumor does not fail to confabulate. The noise runs in the camps, according to which Forey was stopped on the order of Canrobert due to treason, and was led to edge of Montebello, in order to be there judged by a council of war. If the animosity of the troop towards him probably contributes to make it recall to Paris it more determinant exists a reason: a letter of the general, addressed to his mistress in Paris and in which he speaks too freely about the military events, is opened by the black cabinet and is made available of the Emperor. It is decided to point out Forey in France. Pélissier writes on this subject with the Valiant Maréchal: " The Forey general embarked yesterday. He left, the tightened heart, this army where he rendered services real. Calumnies as unjust as absurd poisoned the last months of its stay among nous."
After having been in station in Paris of 1855 to 1859, Forey has the command of the 1e division of the 1st body of the Armée with Italy. May 20th, 1859, he rehabilitates himself with the eyes of the army by gaining the combat of Montebello. Attacked by higher forces, he does not hesitate to go down from horse, to put at the head his Tirailleur S and the sword with the hand he charges the enemy. With 8.200 men it beats 20.000 enemies. Strength and the intelligence of which it makes proof in this combat, make accept the Austrians whom they deal with all the body of Baraguey d' Hilliers and with brigade of Piedmontese. The following day it is joined by Napoleon III which embraces it with overflowing and compliments it for its great victory. Thereafter Forey still illustrates with Me Legnano and Solferino.
Its brilliant led in Italy is worth to him to enter to the Sénat, it occupies of important military commands (1 {{Re}} DI, member of the committee of infantry) and is named Grand Knight of the military Ordre of Savoy.
In 1862, it is selected to replace Lorencez with the head of the task force in Mexico. It shown its limits there and if it takes Puebla it is well thanks to Bazaine. Loizillon is not tender with Forey with the Mexico. According to him, it does not organize anything, and only aspires to have its Bâton of marshal. Still more annoyed to have to assume political responsibilities it shelters behind Saligny.
After having been high with the maréchalat he is recalled in France in July 1863 and guest to give his command to Bazaine. But apparently upset to be recalled so quickly after having received the stick, it makes trail the things and yields its station to its subordinate only in September 1863. It is named Grand Knight of the Mexican Ordre of Guadalupe.
Returned to France, Forey orders the 2 {{E}} Army corps with Lille (1863) then the 3 {{E}} Army corps with Nancy (1864). It is at this station that it is struck of a stroke in April 1867. He consequently does not exert any more any command and dies in Paris on June 20th, 1872. He is buried in the cemetery of Borough-the-Queen where he had a property.
