The herds often consist of 30 to 40 individuals, but are known to reach to 400 animals. They mingle sometimes with other animals such as the Zèbre S or the Girafe S.

Breeding

The éland is the subject of research in order to make a success of its domestication. The zoological gardens of Askaniya-Nova in Ukraine, amongst other things, study its improvement. The success of its breeding would make it possible to offer a new species adapted particularly well to the climate and the endemic diseases of the African continent. Its meat is of good quality and its milk is abundant. For the moment, its domestication holds in failure specialists in the breeding and geneticists.
