Élancourt

Élancourt is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Its inhabitants is called the Élancourtois .

Geography

Located at about fifteen kilometers in the west of Versailles, Élancourt belongs to the Community of Agglomeration of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines which gathers seven communes. The six others are Guyancourt, the Canopy, Magny-the-Hamlets, Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Trap door-in-Yvelines, Neighbors-the-Bretonneux.

The old village, located at the beginning of a depression which continues in valley between the tops of Holy-Apolline with Plaisir in north and the tops of Élancourt then Maurepas in the south towards the hamlet of Jouars with Jouars-Pontchartrain. Today the major part of the population is on the plate of Élancourt-Maurepas, between this valley and the Trunk road 10 which crosses the commune in its southern part. On the northern plate, the district of the Key of Saint-Pierre is next to with pleasure and Trappes.
Only one old hamlet is with the variation of the commune, the hamlet of Launay on the secondary road 23 which carries out of the old village to Jouars.

The commune holds the culminating point of the Ile-de-France with 230 m of altitude, the hill of Revenge, today Colline of Élancourt, completely artificial since built starting from spoil of the new city.

It has as communes bordering Plaisir in north, Trappes in the east, the Mesnil-Saint-Denis in the extreme south-east, the Canopy in the south, Maurepas in south-west and Jouars-Pontchartrain with the west-north-west.

History

The first historical trace of Élancourt goes back to the 11th century in the shape of a commune called “Aglini Curtis”. The name will evolve/move then in Herencurtem (1144), Elencuria (1250), Ellencourt (1472), until Élancourt in 1757.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Élancourt counts 598 inhabitants divided out of 734 hectares. A population made up as a majority of farmers.

Any exchange the day when, to rebalance the Paris region, the concept of new Ville appears. In 1971, with the common neighbors, Élancourt enters the New City of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines.

In 1983, the district of the Key of Saint-Pierre, in the past district of Plaisir is attached to Élancourt.

It is in Élancourt, on October 1st, 1968, that was found in a discharge the body of Stéfan Markovic, old bodyguard of the actor Alain Delon, whose investigation showed that he had been assassinated of a ball in the head. It is the beginning of the Affaire Markovic which became a business of State and in spite of years of investigation forever which been able to be elucidated.

Commune

The Community of agglomeration

Élancourt, constitutes with six other communes (Montigny-le-Bretonneux, the Canopy, Magny-the-Hamlets, Trappes, Guyancourt and Neighbors-the-Bretonneux) the agglomeration of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines, Ville of art and history. The trade-union Committee of the Community of agglomeration is composed representatives elected by the Municipal councils of the seven communes.

The Community of agglomeration manages economic development, the information system strategic plan of transport, the local program of the habitat, the Politique of the city and the Community equipment of interest like the theater of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines or the network of the media libraries. It manages also the large infrastructures: roadway system, networks and green areas.

The city ensures the management of the equipment and the organization of the services set up to meet the requirements for the inhabitants, teaching to the roadway system, while passing by early childhood, the sport, the culture, social protection, etc

The president of the Communauté of agglomeration is Robert Cadalbert (PS), in addition assistant with the mayor of Guyancourt.

Economy

The economic activity of the city is distributed mainly on two industrial parks, three zones of activities and a district.

The industrial park of the Key of Saint-Pierre concentrates more: 5400 employment divided into 30 head offices and production sites. Aeronautics and high technology are the dominant sectors. One can quote important companies such as EADS, Matra, Fenwick or Polaroid.

The industrial park of Trap doors-Élancourt, centered more on the services gathers 17 companies and approximately 580 employment in its siuée part with Élancourt.

The zone of activity of the Coasts, with the foot of the hill of Élancourt, consists of 20 companies employing 245 people.

The zone of activity of Small Villedieu comprises 16 SME for 235 employment.

The zone of activities of the IV Trees with 23 craftsmen, SME and tradesmen gathers 219 employment.

The district of 7 Ponds (real: “The Triton”, “Saint-Quentin 2000”, “Capitole”) concentrates 47 companies and 366 employment.

Town planning

Among the hamlets hatched at the 16th century, only Launay remained with the variation. The three others, the Large one and Small Villedieu and Coudrays, became today of the districts.

The city was seen giving, in 2001, the 2nd equal price of the Villes Flowered of Yvelines .

The village

Nested in the valley, with its stone-built houses grinding and the Saint M3edard's Day church, the village testifies to another time. Old and contemporary constructions are harmonized in a landscape of greenery.

The plate

Since 1970, the plate, located on the southern part of Élancourt, was covered with a dense urbanization. Constituted in majority of residences and groups of buildings, the plate accommodates the principal services, concentrates with the Seven-Ponds.

The Key of Saint-Pierre

Formerly on the commune of Pleasure, these grounds were attached to Élancourt in 1983 following the exit of Pleasure of the community of agglomeration of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines. First of all only zone of activities in edge of the Trunk road 12 and contiguous at the zone of activities of Pissaloup divided with Trap doors, this locality was quickly metamorphosed in district to accommodate many residents and to offer many local services to them, in spite of an important reduction in employment on this quartier.
It is in the vicinity that is, inserted between the zone of activities of the Heathers into Trap doors and the secondary road 912, the Colline of Élancourt, in the past of the Revenge, used by aficionados of Parapente, Cerf-volant and VTT and who should accommodate, by 2007, a bike-park . The place had been retained like Olympic site, for the tests of VTT of the Olympic Games of 2012.

Culture

Places and monuments

In spite of a fast transformation, the city manages to preserve traces of its past. Among the most beautiful vestiges, one counts:

the Romance church Saint M3edard's Day dating from the 12th century;
the Commanderie of Templiers of Villedieu, founded in 1180 and recently renovated.

The city also conceals some interesting sites:

the farm of Mousseau, arts center, with the roundabout of Laubach, close to miniature France;
the laundrette of Hermanderie at the old village;
the basin of the Dumb woman at the old village
the park of Coudrays;
the garden of the five directions at the old village.

The miniature amusement park France reproduced, on five hectares, in the form of models, various areas and monuments of France.
