Éléonore of Provence
Éléonore of Provence (1223, Aix-en-Provence - June 26th 1291, Amesbury), girl of Raimond Béranger IV, count de Provence, and of Beatrice of Savoy.
It was sister of Marguerite of Provence (queen of France and wife of Saint Louis), of Sancie of Provence (queen of the Romans and wife of Richard de Cornouailles), and of Béatrice of Provence (queen of Sicily and wife of Charles of Anjou-Sicily).
It became famous for its piety, and is known under the name of Sainte Éléonore . After the death of her husband in 1272, and following those of its Henry grandson, and his daughters Marguerite and Béatrice, it withdrew in the abbey Bénédictine of Amesbury in 1276, where it died in 1291. It is celebrated the in July or on June 25th.
Family and descent
She married Henri III Plantagenêt, King d' Angleterre, in Canterbury the January 14th 1236, and had for descendants :
- Edouard I {{er}} of England (1239 - 1307) ;
- Marguerite of England (1240 - 1275), which in 1251 wife Alexandre III, King d' Écosse ;
- Beatrice of England († 1275) which marries Jean II, Duc of Brittany ;
- Edmund of Lancaster, 1st Count de Lancastre (1245 - 1296), which in 1276, White wife of Artois.
