Égletons
Égletons ( Aus Gletons in Occitan) is a common French, located in the department of the Corrèze and the area the Limousin. Its inhabitants is called Égletonnais and Égletonnaises.
Geography
Egletons is located on the first buttresses of the Massif Central at the crossroads of the roads which lead to north towards the valley of the Vézère and at the east towards the throats of the the Dordogne.The commune is located on the ex- Nationale 89:
- with 30 kilometers in the east of Tulle
- with 29 kilometers in the west of Ussel
- with 5 kilometers of the exit 22 of the highway A89 connecting Bordeaux (with 260 kilometers) and Clermont-Ferrand (with 120 kilometers)
Climate
The climate is with tendency Continental. The snowfalls are frequent in Hiver with temperatures often in lower part of 0°C. It is one of the rare places of France where one finds a climate as ressemblable as in the North-East of the the United States and part of the Canada.
History
This antique and important city Gallo-Roman E and Medieval E which draws its name from Glett: " marécage" , is in 1059, the capital of the family of the Seigneur S of Ventadour.Since their imposing Fortress, true eyrie on a rock piton whose vestiges still testify to the power, Ventadour will make the fortune of Égletons, will ensure its prosperity and will be at the origin of a rich person tradition of art and culture, that of Fina Amor: the Poetry of the Troubadour S. Bernard de Ventadour, one of most famous of them, knew to sing through all Europe this refined courteous civilization. Egletons preserves today still remainders of this fortified town, its ramparts with the five doors carry the weapons of Ventadour, its church Saint-Anthony and its bell-tower of the XIIe century armed with Mâchicoulis, its Chapelle of Penitent.
