History
The origin of the name is dubious. City derives from Latin villa who means the field, as for Ecrain the direction is dubious, one finds Escrainvilla at the end of XIIe century. Many documents make it possible to make go up the occupation of the territory at the time franque, to see former periods. Abbot DICQUEMARE described, in 1778, the old marl-pit of Maucomble and his study of the 150 human skeletons lets think that this crypt goes back to XIe century since the Saint-Denis church goes back to this period. The first written documents go back to the end of XIe century. In 1180, the lord of Tennemare or Tannemare is reproduced on the registers of the Chess-board of Normandy. From the XVIIe century, Foville are transmitted of wire father the seigniory of Ecrainville and gather the principal strongholds under their authority. As of the end of the XVIIIe century, are born the projects from meeting of communes. The ordinance of October 25th, 1826 joins together Tennemare with Ecrainville. At the XIXe century, rural textile industry is still very flourishing then it declines as from the years 1920.
