Éclans-Nenon

Éclans-Nenon is a common French, located in the department of the the Jura and the area Franche-Comté. This entity results from fusion into 1973 of Eclans and Nénon.

Geography

The village of Eclans is located in a " reculée" in the forest, in the shape of rectangle. It is organized around a road which is inserted, skirted the castle there and, in top, joined a reserve of water called " large the étang".

History

The history of Eclans-Nénon is still to write… Among the traces which left us the history appears a tumulus quoted by various historians like the place where the Romans directed by Jules César, after their victory over Séquanais directed by Arioviste in the Plain of the Moon, have joins together their deaths and burned them. The ground of this tumulus was black and light whereas the ground of the surroundings is reddish and compact.

The village of Eclans, formerly written Esclans or sometimes Exclans (in the parochial Registers), was preceded in the history by that by Eclangeot, located more close to Doubs.

Among practiced in the past cultures, there be that of hemp and of course of the vine, as testify a sale to it to goods about 1606 (Files of collegial of Pares).

The church of Eclangeot, placed under the patronage of German Saint seems to have been at the beginning a dependence of the Knights of the Ordre of the Temple, whose commandery was located not far from there, to Falletans. After the suppression of Templiers, their goods, here like elsewhere, were recovered by the Ordre of Malta. The church of Eclangeot collapsed in 1782 and it was the vault of the close castle which was set up in parish church, the current church of Eclans. In 2006, on the spot of the hamlet of Eclangeot a body of farm remains from which the lintel of door, according to the owners, comes from the old hamlet.

A vat connected until the beginning of the XX° century, the locality of Eclangeot to bank of opposite, to the place says Aijottes.

Huts of loggers, coalmen,… (" Huts of IV") were connected to this village, as testify some to the births, marriages and deaths announced in the registers of Civil statue and parochial Registres. In 1935, the last couple of inhabitants left the Hut n° 1 of the IV.

Demography

Historical notes on demography.

After the Thirty Year old war, of many villages was devastated. The census of the militia of 1644 announce like uninhabited the villages of Eclangeot and Nenon.

Census of the population, February 9th, 1657 :

Esclangeot 16 people
Escland (Eclans): 65 people
Nenon: 48 people

that is to say 129 people for all three place

Places and monuments

The Town hall, the church, the war memorial and the library, in the years 2000, are located all on the same place on other side of the road which skirts a blank of the castle.

Personalities related to the commune

Emmanuel de Toulongeon, member of the Institute
the family of Marenches, originating in Italy (Raymond and François Marenchi begin again in stronghold by act of the 17 of the calends of June 1186 various grounds of Frederic Barberousse) which one can quote in 1562 the Constance rider of Marenches, general treasurer of Burgundy and Seigneur of Nenon, named by Philippe II first Adviser at the Court of Auditors of Pares.

Twelve of Marenches were mayeurs or mayors of Pares between the XVI° and the XVIII° century.
