Één
Één (the One in Flemish) is the first public Television channel of the Flemish Communauté of Belgium pertaining to the public group Vlaamse Radio- in Televisieomroep (VRT).
History of the chain
The NIR
Experimental television is born in Belgium on line on June 2nd 1953 with the diffusion of the crowning of the Queen Elizabeth II of England.January 31st 1954, the very new television channel experimental of the Nationaal Instituut voor Radio Omroep Belgian (NIR) opens his antenna a few hours per day.
In the first times, the NIR emits only two to three evenings per week. The World Fair of Brussels of 1958 gives to the NIR the opportunity to reinforce its new televisual pole and to supplant the radio. Each day, of the reports, interviews, debates and animations make the report of the activities of Expo 58.
In 1953, one counted only 6500 television receivers in Belgium. The transmitters of the NIR are then located at the Law courts to Brussels with a limited range with a radius of 40 kilometers. In 1956, one counts more than 100000 television sets and, in 1960, one passes the bar of the 700000.
The BRT
In 1960, the law Harmel replaces Nationaal Instituut voor Radio Omroep by the Belgische Radio in Televisieomroep (BRT). This new establishment includes/understands a BRT or issuing house Dutchwomen (Belgische Radio in Televisie), a French issuing house (Belgian Radio-Télévision or RTB) and an institute of the common services. The two issuing houses are independent one of the other and have of a total cultural autonomy, an organic independence with respect to the government and the guarantee of the freedom of information. The BRT/RTB is directed by a director of the programs named by the King.
In 1977, a second channel of television of language Dutchwoman is created, BRT2, and the first chain becomes BRT1 . In 1991, the BRT becomes Belgische Radio- in Televisieomroep Nederlandstalige Uitzendingen (BRTN) and BRT1 is renamed BRTN1 , then VRT-TV1 when the public group affirms its Flemish character with depends on its Belgian identity.
According to the example of RTBF with the One in French community, TV1 becomes Één in January 2005.
