Æthelwalh
Æthelwalh (or better Æðelwealh ) was historically the first king of the Sussex.
In 661, king Wulfhere of Mercie gave him the territories of Meonwara and the island of Wight. He was his godfather during his conversion to the Christianisme. Thus, Æthelwalh became the first Christian king of Sussex. It Maria with Eafe, girl of Eanfrith off Hwicce. In 681, Æthelwalh gives the grounds of Selsey to Wilfrid, bishop exiled of York, which founded the abbey of Selsey there.
In 685, Cædwalla, a prince of the Saxonie of the west, invades Sussex and devastated it. Æthelwalh was killed. Cædwalla was beaten and pushed back by lieutenants de Æthelwalh, Berthun and Andhun, which controlled Sussex after these events.
