Émile Durkheim
Caza , of its true name Philippe Cazaumayou (born the November 14th 1941 with Paris), is a draftsman French. Wire of Andre Caza sporting caricaturist (1911-2003) and of a mother professor of drawing, itself girl of the painter Pierre-Gaston Stone and sister of the painter of the Marine Jean Stone, it passes her childhood in the Paris region and her adolescence in Haute-Savoie.
Back to 18 years, it goes in Paris and becomes apprentice in a poster artist, then he is advertizing graphic designer independent.
After 10 years spent in publicity, it decides into 1968 to be directed towards the Cartoon and the illustration of Science-fiction. In 1970 appears Kriss Kool , cartoon of psychedelic SF marked by the combined influence of Jean-Claude Forest ( Barbarella ) and of the Pop-art (Guy Peellaert with Jodelle and Pravda ).
It leaves Paris to settle in the the Cevennes and, in the Seventies, it shares its activity between illustrations and covers for various publications of the Opta editions and the short stories in the magazine Pilote ( Hysterical Contes , the red stone ,…)
In 1974, it starts to illustrate the collection of paperbacks I have Lu , for which it will produce covers of great classics of the heroic-fantasy: Catherine Moore, Abraham Merritt, Leigh Brackett, etc
When Métal howling appears in 1975, it provides to this magazine stories of SF with mythological tendency ( Sanguine , the bird Poussière ). Its work is then based on the black and white, it will gradually give up it for a more pictorial work color ( Arkhê , Axolotls ).
In Pilot , it is put in scene in Scènes of the life of suburbs . These chronicles, based on a sour satire of the modern life and the intrusion of the Fantastic in the daily newspaper, oppose it to its neighbor, Average Frenchman.
In the Eighties, it settles in the area of Montpellier. Devoting itself definitively to the SF, it starts in Pilote the age of Shade . For the Associated Humanoïdes , it provides the matter of the collection Laïlah where mythological topics are revisited by the SF and the erotism.
In same time, it takes part in collective portfolios, illustrates Robert Escarpit, publishes Mémoires of scums (spectacle, album, film and disc). It is also tested with the decorations and stage costumes for a part of Victor Hugo.
From 1985 to 1987, he works with Rene Laloux with cartoon film Gandahar according to the novel of Jean-Pierre Andrevon, as with a short-measuring How Wang-Fô was saved according to the Eastern Nouvelles of Marguerite Yourcenar.
At the end of the Eighties, while continuing to work for I have Lu , it illustrates Skaith , of Leigh Brackett and made knowledge with the illustration in the field of the Roleplay ( Simulacres , the Call of Cthulhu ) and of the Video game ( Kult ).
In the years 1990 it is devoted mainly to long series as a cartoon: Le Monde d' Arkadi , or Chroniques of the ground fixes . It will also produce, as a scenario writer, a series of heroic-fantasy with humorous tendency: Asbestos , drawn by Patrick Lemordan.
In 1993, the House besides of Yverdon-the-Baths, European museum of the SF, devotes a retrospective exposure to him. The festival Utopia 2000 does as much of it.
The cartoon film the Children of the rain , drawn from a novel of Serge Brussolo and realized by Philippe Leclerc, leaves in 2003, with a music of Didier Lockwood. Caza is the Co-scenario writer and the graphic originator.
