The groups of guggenmusik are Fanfare S which make music with disguises. They are primarily Suisse S but there exist some formations in the countries bordering.

The guggenmusiks (can be also written guggen , guggemusik , guggamusig , guggemusig , etc according to the German cantons Suisse S) are composed musical formations for the majority, of coppers (trumpet S, Trombone S, Euphonium S, Sousaphone S) and of percussions (battery S mobiles, large cases, granites), and sometimes, of Lyre S. Some add Saxophone S, accessories of percussions, or others; some do not have euphoniums, or not a souzas, but the unit is more and more register.

Etymology

According to Claude Fieni, the word Guggenmusik comes from “Gugge”, paper cone having the form of some Instruments wind. One found some already at the beginning of the century spent in the towns of Lucerne and Basle. These click met a sharp success in the years cinquante-soixante, and of Guggen news were formed in French-speaking Switzerland and with the Tessin. Beyond the Swiss borders, one finds some with the Liechtenstein, Germany, in Austria, France, and even in England.

Style and repertory

The euphoniums play of the contrechants or of the harmonic complements , they can also have parts of song in order to create sets of nuances. The souzas give the harmony in general and their part rather often resembles a basic part of variety. The large cases play of the fixed rates/rhythms on one or two measurements and arise well from the group. The batteries play part of variety improved with many additions often placed in balance and which reduce the rhythm section. The granites bring a key latino so necessary.

In German-speaking Switzerland the large formations do not have overall pieces well defined.

All is based on plays between desks, one sometimes meets a solo of trumpet or trombone during a piece, but it is not very current.

Representations

The guggenmusiks are mainly Swiss and occur especially in their country or the countries bordering (France, Belgium, Germany…). More and more, of the guggenmusiks take part in great events abroad such as for example the Olympic Games of Turin in 2006, the carnival of Martinique or the Carnaval of Quebec
