Âbû mount
The mount Âbû , or Mount of Wisdom, is a Montagne located at the end of the chain of the Ârâvalli to the the Rajasthan, with some 100 kilometers in the west of Udaipur. The culminating point is the peak Gurû Shikhara of 1888 meters altitude. Its name comes from Arbuda, a Asura killed by Indra. It is one of the principal centers of pilgrimage of the Jaïnisme since the 11th century and one finds there many temples jaina of white marble surrounded by blind walls, among which the Vimal Vasahi , oldest, built in 1031 by Vimal Shâh and dedicated to the first Tîrthankara and the Lun Vasahi , built in 1231 by the brothers Vastupal and Tejpal, of the ministers of Vir Dhawal, a Râja of the Goujerat pertaining to the community jaina Porwal. However, the group of temples of Dilwâra, genuine marble lace, which exceeds by its work that of Ranakpur, is a top of art jaina.
End of the 10th century with 1320, the Âbû mount was the center of a vassal kingdom of Paramâra, of Chandravâti capital, and of which the first râja, Âranyarâja, were the son of Paramâra of the Mâlvâ.
Brood at the top of the mountain, with 1220 meters of altitude, at the edge of the lake Nakhi Talao, is the small city of Âbû which saw primarily tourism, in particular for honeymoons, and of the pilgrimages. During the British Raj, it was used as station of mountain, the only one of the Rajasthan, to escape heat from the summer in the plain and sanatorium for the troops.
