Ásbyrgi
The throat of Ásbyrgi belongs to the National park of Jökulsárgljúfur in the north of the Iceland. It was formed by the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum which dug a throat in form of Horseshoe. Maintaining the river does not pass any more by this site.
In the throat, where there was probably a great water fall formerly, one finds today a small lake with much of Canard S of different species. There is also (made rather rare in Iceland) a wood of Bouleau X.
In front of the entry with the throat, one finds a rock a height of about 25 m and a length of approximately 500 m which is called Eyjan (“the island”). The throat has also the nickname trace of foot of Odin because a Saga tells that one of the eight feet of the horse of this God Germanique would be at the origin of the form characteristic of the site.
