Álvaro de Bazán

Álvaro de Bazán there Guzmán , first Marquis of Santa-Cruz, is a Admiral and a Général Spanish born with Grenade the December 12th 1526. It served Charles-Quint and especially Philippe II of which he became the right-hand man.

Its life is indissolubly related to the history of the military marine of the Spain of its time, of which he was the admiral more shining. It contributed to the catch of Tunis on Khayr AD-DIN Barberousse in 1535, seized Peñon-in Velez with Algiers in 1564, fought with Lépante in 1571. In 1582, it overcame with the Bataille of the Azores Philippe Strozzi, chief of the French fleet which supported the rights of the Prieur of Crato to the throne of the Portugal, but tarnishes its victory by the massacre of the prisoners. Philippe II who had named it Capitán of Mar Océana there Almirante of the Marina (captain of the sea océane and admiral of the navy) him entrusted the organization and the command of the Invincible Armada. Death surprised it with Lisbon the February 9th 1588 whereas he worked with the preparation of his fleet.
