Álvaro Uribe Vélez , born the July 4th 1952 with Medellín, is since the August 7th 2002 the president of Colombia and because of its re-election the May 28th 2006 with 62  % of the voices (and 56  % of abstention).

Biography

It is a lawyer having studied at the University of Antioquia, with studies of specialization in administration and management with the Université of Harvard.

Former governor of the area of Antioquia (capital: Medellin), he was member of the Liberal party - the one of the two Colombian traditional parties with the preserving Party, which he left to present as an independent candidate at the time of the presidential election of 2002. He was re-elected the May 28th 2006 for a new mandate.

He is married in Lina Moreno of Uribe with whom he had two wire, Tomás and Jerónimo.

Relationships to the trade of drugs

An official document, classified " without checking finale" , going back to 1991 returned by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) on page ten, number 82; Mr. Uribe is described there as collaborator of the trust of Medellin, and close friend of Mr. Escobar; he would have also helped the trust with regard to the laws on the extradition. Manifestation of the natives

The September 16th 2004: 45000 Colombian natives, gathered to express against the policy of Uribe. This last condemns them, because they do not cooperate with the government. Those feel taken between the crossfires of the AUC, the FARC and the army of the government.

Relationship with Venezuela

Movements and military operations were tested close to the northern part of the border vénézuélienne in 2004. Some people marked to be paramilitaries, which one discovered later that they had been forced to act against their will, was stopped with the Venezuela, and was shown to assemble a coup d'etat by the government Venezuelan. On the 100 stopped Colombians, 27 were condemned by the justice of Venezuela.
