Água Doce is a city Brésil ienne west of the State of Santa Catarina.
Its population was of: 6756 inhabitants with the census of 2007. The municipality extends on 1313 km ².
The city is located at approximately 500 km in the west of the capital of the State, Florianópolis. It belongs to the Microrégion de Joaçaba, in the mésorégion Western of Santa Catarina.
The climate is wet there, with fresh summers and rigorous winters. The municipality knows Neige and cold in winter. The average temperature is of 16,6°C. Annual precipitations vary between: 1000 and 1900 Misters.
In the valleys, the vegetation is dense, made up of forests of pine S, imbuias, Cèdre S, etc the area agrees particularly with the culture of trees Fruit iers. More in altitude, the vegetation is less dense. The fields are covered with Graminée S and are used for the breeding Bovin.
The area is traversed by many rivers, among which the Rio Chapecó, Rio C Mato, the Rio Chapecozinho, the Rio Santo Antônio, Rio Estreito and Rio Água Doce.
IDH of the city was of 0,809 in 2000 (UNDP).
As from the years 1920, colonists of origin Italy, originating in the Rio Grande C Sul settle in the area in the search of new grounds.
Known first of all under the name of Encruzadilha , the city takes later the name of Água Doce, according to the name of the Rivière which crosses it, Rio Água Doce.
The city becomes autonomous municipality on June 21st 1958, by dismemberment of Joaçaba.
Água Doce has one of the most important parks of wind energy of the State de Santa Catarina, gathering 15 aerogenerators, for a working installed capacity of 9 MW.
Not far from the center town, the morro São Jose , with her 1199 m of altitude, offers a point of view on the surroundings and is used regularly for the local religious processions.
On the whole of its surface, the municipality lays out of many wild, traversed landscapes rivers and cascades (in particular the will cachoeira C Pau Furado , on the Rio Chapecó). The practice of the ecotourism is very developed in the area.
